Trabzon Student Card

Students in Trabzon ride municipal buses at a discount, or free, with a personalised student card issued in their own name with a photo. Cards are issued at the TULAŞ Application and Card Centre; some universities also hand them out on campus at the start of term.

What is the Trabzon student card?

The student card is the discounted card type of the Trabzon Kart system. It carries the holder's name and photo, and only the holder may use it. Primary and middle school pupils get a free-ride card in the same system.

Who can get a student card?

• Primary, middle and high school students under the Ministry of National Education, including open middle school, open high school and vocational open education.
• Associate, bachelor's and postgraduate students at institutions under YÖK, including formal, open and distance education.
• Foreign students on a Turkish government scholarship (with an extra document, see below).

Students who have graduated, frozen their enrolment or are on hold cannot use the student discount.

Where do you get a Trabzon student card?

Apply at the TULAŞ Application and Card Centre in Pazarkapı, next to Hanife Hatun Mosque (Ortahisar). For directions and the services offered there, see Trabzon Kart centres. Opening hours are not published as a regular table, so check with Alo 153 before you go.

Schools can also apply for their students as a group, with a school letter, an approved student list and photos.

Once you have the card, you can add credit or a monthly pass at kiosks and top-up points.

Required documents

• A student certificate for the school year you apply in, or a copy of your student ID card.
• Foreign government-scholarship university students: a letter from the Provincial Directorate of National Education confirming the scholarship, plus that year's student certificate from your university. Language students at TÖMER apply with their TÖMER student certificate.

The regulation does not list a photo for individual applications, but the card carries one, so bring a passport photo or ask Alo 153 whether it is taken at the centre. For other card types see required documents; to compare cards see card types.

Applying as a university student

University students also get the card at the TULAŞ Application and Card Centre with a current student certificate.

• KTÜ: KTÜ Student Affairs announced that, with the municipality, cards are handed out on campus in the laundry building next to the grass pitch, on weekdays 08:30–17:00. The announcement does not state a year, so check KTÜ ÖİDB announcements for this term.
• Trabzon University Kampüs Kart: used as student ID and for meals and the library. The university's information does not say it works as a bus card, so you need a separate student card for municipal buses.

Visa / renewal

• Student cards are renewed (visa) every year in October.
• The visa needs the same documents as the first application: that year's student certificate.
• A card without a current visa is charged the full fare.

Lost or damaged card

• Lost: apply to the card application service for a new card; once the conditions are met, a new card is issued for the card fee. If your lost card has been handed in, it is returned to you on written request.
• Worn or broken card: the old card is cancelled and a new one issued for the card fee.
• Letting someone else use it: the driver confiscates a discounted card used by anyone other than its holder; it stays blocked for one calendar year.
